ten / tin / tent / tain = to hold 握、持、守住，远祖是原始印欧语根 *ten-「拉伸」。同一个 *ten-，在拉丁语里分化成两个大动词，先认清这两张脸：

本篇最容易讲串：一个「握」、一个「伸」，长相几乎一样，意思却毫不相干。务必先分脉，再背词。

拉丁①·握tenēre（to hold 握住）的现在词干，在前缀后元音弱化为 tin- / tain- → con-tain, con-tin-ue, ob-tain, sus-tain, re-tain, con-tent, ten-ant, ten-ure, ab-stain。核心义是「一直拿在手里不放」。
