01英汉语序总差异：修饰语的位置正好相反
中文习惯”修饰语在前，中心语在后”；英文习惯”中心语在前，修饰语在后”。翻译的本质动作之一，就是把后置的定语、状语挪回前面；挪不动的，就拆成短句。

02短定语提前，长定语拆句
例The virgin forest with its richness and variety of trees was a real treasure-house which extended from Maine all the way down to Georgia.
The virgin forest … was a real treasure-house with its richness and variety of trees, which extended from Maine all the way down to Georgia.
主干”原始森林是一座真正的宝库”；with 短语（林木丰富多样）较短，可提前作定语；which 定语从句较长，单独译一句更顺。
参考译文那片原始森林林木丰富、树种繁多，是一座名副其实的宝库，从缅因州一直绵延到佐治亚州。
易错把 which 从句硬塞进”宝库”前面：”那片是从缅因绵延到佐治亚的、拥有丰富多样树木的原始森林的真正宝库”——一个”的”套到底，中文根本读不下去。长定语一定拆。

03状语位置：时间、条件、原因常提前
英文把从句放句尾很常见，中文习惯把时间、条件、原因状语放到主句前面。
例As many took on the duty of trying to integrate reasoning and scientific philosophies into the world, the Renaissance was over and it was time for a new era—the Age of Reason.

As 引导的时间/原因状语中文提前；破折号后的”理性时代”是对 new era 的补充，保留。
