Tianjin is a northern city with four clear seasons. Winter here is rather cold, so you’d better pack some warm clothes. As for food, we enjoy noodles and dumplings, which I’m sure you’ll love. Our class is a big, friendly family of 45 students, who are hard-working and always ready to help you. We also have many after-school activities, such as English Corner and basketball.

In the morning, we’ll have a free talk in the school hall about school life and cultural differences. I’m Li Jin, chairman of the Student Union from Chenguang High School. Learning that your Chinese class is eager to know more about China, our school has decided to donate some books to you.

We have prepared 50 books, including Chinese novels, dictionaries and picture albums about traditional Chinese culture. These books cover history, festivals and daily life, so they will surely help you understand China better. I’m glad to hear that you’re interested in the Chinese Poetry Competition on CCTV.

The show has been a huge hit across China. Competitors of all ages recite classical poems and guess lines from memory, and millions of viewers watch it every week. It has brought classical Chinese culture back into the spotlight.

To learn more about Chinese culture, you can read books about classical poems, such as the famous Three Hundred Tang Poems, and watch more cultural TV programs. Besides, some online courses on Chinese history will surely be helpful as well.

I truly hope you’ll make great progress in Chinese and fall in love with our culture step by step.

Dear Chris,

I’m so glad to hear from you.

Our school held the coming-of-age ceremony on June 8th. We first walked through the “18-year-old gate” and looked back on our growth over the past three years. Then we watched a video about our alumni fighting against COVID-19, which moved us all to tears. We also received touching letters written by our parents.

The ceremony was truly meaningful. It made me realize that I am no longer a child and should take on more responsibilities for my family and society.

Looking ahead, I hope to go to my ideal college and grow into a responsible citizen who can contribute to our country.
