英一2010 · 文化“火锅”,既美味又营养
52. Directions: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should
1) describe the drawing briefly,
2) explain its intended meaning, and
3) give your comments.
You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)
As is vividly shown in the drawing, a steaming hotpot is filled with diverse cultural elements: not only Chinese ones such as Confucius, kung fu and Peking Opera, but also foreign symbols like Shakespeare, the Enlightenment and postmodern ideas. The caption reads that the cultural “hotpot” is both delicious and nutritious.
The drawing conveys a thought-provoking message: cultural integration is a treasure rather than a threat. When civilizations meet, they do not cancel each other out. Instead, the East and the West borrow strengths from one another, producing a richer spiritual feast. A case in point is young artists today, who combine traditional Chinese opera with modern stage design and win audiences worldwide.
From my perspective, we should confidently absorb the essence of foreign cultures while preserving our own roots. Only by opening up and exchanging can a culture stay vibrant, and only then can we enjoy a hotpot that is truly delicious and nutritious.

英一2011 · 旅程之“余”
52. Directions: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should
1) describe the drawing briefly,
2) explain its intended meaning, and

You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)
As is vividly depicted in the drawing, a sightseeing boat glides on a beautiful lake, yet the tourists on board casually throw food boxes, bottles and banana peels into the water. The lake below is already dotted with floating rubbish. The caption is The “Remains” of a Journey.
This scene is far from rare. While travelers enjoy the scenery, they leave behind a trail of litter, turning scenic spots into dumping grounds. The picture criticizes uncivilized tourism: for many visitors, a journey ends with leftover garbage rather than pleasant memories. Such behavior pollutes the water, harms wildlife and ruins the experience of those who come after.
It is high time we traveled in a civilized manner. Tourists should take away their own trash, and scenic areas should strengthen supervision. Only when we leave nothing but footprints and take away nothing but photos can the beauty of nature be truly preserved.

英一2012 · “全完了!”/“幸好还剩点儿。”
52. Directions: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should
1) describe the drawing briefly,
2) explain its intended meaning, and
3) give your comments.
You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)
As is shown in the drawing, a bottle has been knocked over, with its contents spilling onto the ground. Facing the mess, one man covers his face in despair, crying “It’s all gone!”, while the other hurries forward, saying with relief “Luckily, there is still some left!”
The two reactions vividly illustrate two opposite attitudes toward setbacks. The pessimist fixes his eyes on what has been lost and gives up, whereas the optimist notices what remains and looks for a way out. In life, losses are unavoidable: we may fail an exam, lose a job, or miss an opportunity. Yet the gap between these two mindsets often decides the outcome. Those who dwell on the spill rarely recover; those who value the drop left can start all over again.
From my perspective, optimism is a choice rather than an inborn character. When misfortune strikes, we should ask not “How much have I lost?” but “What can I still save?” Only with such a positive attitude can we turn a spilled bottle into a new beginning.

52. Directions: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should
1) describe the drawing briefly,
2) interpret its intended meaning, and
3) give your comments.
You should write neatly on the ANSWER SHEET. (20 points)
As is vividly shown in the drawing, a group of graduates stand hesitating at a fork in the road, where four paths lead respectively to job-hunting, taking the postgraduate exam, going abroad and starting a business. The caption simply reads “Choice”.
The picture reflects a real dilemma facing Chinese graduates: after years of study, they must choose their future direction at once, with no clear map. There is never a single best path. Some prefer stability and seek a job; others chase deeper knowledge and prepare for further study; a few adventurous ones try entrepreneurship. What matters is not which road is the most popular, but which suits one’s own personality, ability and ambition. A choice blindly followed by others may turn out to be a trap.
From my perspective, graduates should assess themselves calmly before making a decision. Once a choice is made, they should devote themselves to it. No matter which path we take, perseverance, rather than the choice itself, finally leads to success.
